Federal Investors
For investor immigrants, the applicant must have owned, and managed or have been a manager in, a
qualifying business for 2 out of the past 5 years. He or she must have a minimum legally acquired net
worth of CDN $800,000, and must invest CDN $400,000 into government guaranteed securities for 5
years, without interest.
He or she must also secure at least 35 points out of 100 on the Federal Investor Immigration Grid.
Factors to be considered in determining a score include age, education, language skills, work experience
and previous visits to Canada.
He or she may provide some portion of the investment, and borrow the balance, using only the
investment as collateral. The investment is Government guaranteed and does not have to be made until
the immigration application is approved.
